Medical Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a safe, relatively painless and effective treatment. It involves piercing the skin with fine needles that are sterile and disposable. It can be used to treat many conditions and is especially useful for the treatment of pain.

At The Foot Space we provide medical acupuncture by a medically qualified doctor, who has a special interest in acupuncture and has trained for many years, providing a mixture of Western and Chinese style treatments.

Conditions that can be successfully treated include:

• Neck & back pain
• Sciatica
• Frozen shoulder, tennis elbow
• Irritable Bowel Syndrome
• Migraines
• Skin disorders
• Addictions (e.g. smoking)
• Weight loss
• Fatigue
• Insomnia …and many more

The initial treatment will last approximately 60 minutes, with a full medical history taken and details of the specific condition you wish to be treated discussed. You will need to either sit or lie down with the relevant parts exposed and then just relax whilst the needles are being inserted. Some people feel a “funny sensation”, tingling or aching, though in general it is not considered a painful treatment. The number of treatments you may require will vary with your individual condition and this will be discussed with you at the initial appointment.

Our doctor also offers a no obligation free consultation if you are unsure of whether acupuncture is right for you – if not, he will recommend and advise you on the appropriate treatment. If you are worried about the treatment, don’t worry about it – just talk it over with the doctor.

Our podiatrist also offers acupuncture though this is limited to the lower limb and foot and will be recommended by the podiatrist if necessary.

The Foot Space Acupuncturist is fully trained and qualified. He is a medical doctor and is a member of the Chinese Medical Institute & Register.
